Local/seasonal restaurant in Brooklyn: Chestnut

So last Thursday, I had the most amazing 40th birthday dinner with a friend from work. It was totally unplanned, I was only going to stop by the festivities for a quick drink but decided to stay as the conversation flowed and my stomach demanded to be fed.

I’m so glad I did! Not only were we surrounded by warm laughter and great conversation, we were also surrounded by the warm ambience of the restaurant which felt like a simple, beautiful dining room in the middle of the country. The service was impeccable throughout; we were treated warmly even when our conversation got a little bawdy (hey! The place was practically empty, which is a shame for a Thursday night on Smith Street. Get out there folks!)

Everything was delicious: the mussels, the calamari, the bread with olive oil and fresh pickles, and of course my dinner. I had the pasta cavatelle with sausage paired with a not too dry cotes du rhone. I’m getting ravenous just thinking back!

This place is not cheap but it’s not over the top either. It’s definitely perfect for birthdays, anniversary dinners, just-because-I-love-you brunches, or whatever. And I plan to go back asap!
